Yoga originated from the East, most specifically from India. But nowadays, the West has also incorporated it as one of the most recommended alternative medicine for treatment of conditions.  With the West adapting this natural method, Yoga became popular.  Here are some facts that are related to Yoga in modern times.

Yoga is now adapted not only by Hindus but by almost all cultures. It is a de-stressing exercise which relieves anxiety, stress and work-related mental fatigue. All you have to do is to perform Yoga regularly and you will feel the relaxing effect of the exercise.

People who practice Yoga use it not only as a relaxing exercise, but as a way of life. This includes the mental, spiritual and physical realms.  Yoga denotes a healthy lifestyle where you eat right, sleep right and practice only the healthy regimens.

Drugs of abuse like cigarettes and alcohol are prohibited in yoga, not only because they are unhealthy but because they are also expensive.

It also concerns proper diet.  Those who practice Yoga eat only nutritious and non-fat foods.  Genuine Yoga persons are vegetarians. But since it is modern Yoga, there are many who also eat meat. They just reduce their meat intake and increase vegetables and fruits in their diet.  Nutritionists and scientists have proven that fruits and vegetables are rich with vitamins and nutrients and are low in calories.  That is why they are also good for overweight persons, who want to lose weight.

Yoga in modern times has move on to something universal that almost anyone from any race or creed could practice.
