Skin Cancers: Basal cell cancer, Squamous cell cancer, and Melanoma

The three most general skin cancers are basal cell cancer, squamous cell cancer, and melanoma, all of which is named after the type of skin cell from which it occurs. Basal cell cancer does not generally metastasize or go in the bloodstream; somewhat it infiltrates the nearby area and damage the tissue. Squamous cell carcinoma (squamous cell cancer) is the second most familiar type of skin cancer. The threat of developing squamous cell cancer increases with age because each contact to injurious UV rays causes more harm to the skin. As this damage accumulates, the danger of developing skin cancer grows.

Skin Cancers

Skin Cancers

Skin cancer usually develops in the outermost layer of skin, so a tumor is usually clearly able to be seen. This makes most skin cancers detectable in the premature stages. not like many other cancers, including those originating in the lung, pancreas, and stomach, only a small minority of those afflicted will in fact die of the disease. In fact, however it can be disfiguring, apart from for melanoma, skin cancer is rarely fatal. Skin cancer represents the most usually diagnosed cancer, breasts, surpassing lung, colorectal, and prostate cancer. Melanoma is fewer common than basal cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma, but it is the most severe. It is the most ordinary cancer in the young population. Most cases are caused by long periods of contact to the sun. Non-melanoma skin cancers are the most familiar skin cancers. The mass of these are basal cell carcinomas. These are generally localized growths caused by too much cumulative exposure to the sun and do not be likely to spread.

Skin cancer symptoms

There are a range of different skin cancer symptoms. These contain changes in the skin that do not cure, discolored skin, ulcering in the skin and changes in presented moles, such as jagged edges to the mole and swelling of the mole.

Basal cell cancer generally presents as a smooth, raised, pearly bump on the UV rays exposed skin of the head, neck or shoulders. Occasionally small blood vessels can be seen within the tumor. Bleeding in the middle of the tumor regularly develops. It is often incorrect for a sore that does not cure. This form of skin cancer is the slightest deadly and with proper treatment can be entirely removed, often without scarring.

Squamous cell cancer (Squamous cell carcinoma) is generally a red, scaling, thickened patch on sun-exposed skin. A number of are firm solid nodules and dome shaped like keratoacanthomas. Ulceration and bleeding may happen. When Squamous cell carcinoma is not treated, it may build up into a large mass. Squamous cell carcinoma is dangerous, but not nearly as dangerous as a melanoma.

Melanoma: mainly melanomas are brown to black looking lesions. Unluckily, a few melanomas are pink, red or plump in color; these are called amelanotic melanomas. These tend to be more violent. Merkel cell carcinomas are most often quickly growing, non-tender red, purple or skin colored bumps that are not sore or itchy. They may be mistaken for a ulcer or other type of cancer.

Mesothelioma, Causes and its Types

Lung cancer mesothelioma typically occurs at a younger age than other lung cancers. Mesothelioma is caused by exposure to asbestos and the legacy of mesothelioma is a disturbing one. Due to increased awareness of mesothelioma, increase on medical research to cure and control mesothelioma and other asbestos-caused cancers and also related asbestos heart and respiratory diseases.

Mesothelioma Disease

Mesothelioma Disease

Thousands of persons were unnecessarily exposed to asbestos and as a result many developed mesothelioma in their later years. If you are working in places that exposes you to asbestos and you start shortness of breath Persistent chest pains, Hoarseness, Anemia, Coughing, then you should visit your doctor and should contact a mesothelioma attorney or mesothelioma lawyer. When asbestos fibers are inhaled or ingested, they may become trapped in the lungs or the digestive tract permanently, causing lung cancer mesothelioma. The most familiar type of mesothelioma is pleural mesothelioma, while pericardial mesothelioma and peritoneal mesothelioma are less frequent. Malignant mesothelioma is a life-threatening rare condition accounting for almost 75% of all the mesothelioma cases. Malignant pleural mesothelioma is an asbestos-related cancer that affects the lining of the chest cavity. One of the main problems in diagnosing malignant pleural mesothelioma is that the disease has a very slow onset. Continue reading “Mesothelioma, Causes and its Types” »

Cancer, types, causes and prevention

What is cancer?

CancerAccording to natural process of our body system cells of our body grow and die in a predictable manner. This cycle of growing of cells, dyeing of cells and their replacement by new cells continue. But if something goes wrong too many cells may grow in a uncontrolled manner. Due to any disorder of cell growth cells divide at an excessive rate faster than healthy body cells and behave abnormally. These abnormal cells which invade and damage surrounding healthy tissues are cancer cells and the disease is known as cancer. Cancer cells may spread to different parts of the body via blood stream or lymphatic system.

There are various types of cancer:-

 (i) Kidney Cancer

(ii) Liver Cancer

(iii) Lung Cancer

(iv) Leukemia

(v) Brain Cancer

(vi) Skin Cancer

(vii) Ovarian Cancer

(viii) Breast Cancer

(ix) Gal bladder Cancer

(x) Stomach Cancer

(xi) Pancreatic Cancer

(xii) Thyroid Cancer

(xiii) Throat cancer

(xiv) Colon Cancer, etc.

Symptoms of all types of cancer are not the same and depend upon the types and locations of cancer. As for example: – Diarrhea or Constipation pain in abdomen, coming of blood with stool may be the symptoms of colon cancer.

Shortness of breath, pain in chest, coughing may be symptoms of lung cancer.

Sweat at night, pain in bones, weight loss and weakness, bleeding in gums, excessive or easy bruising etc. may be symptoms of blood cancer.

Diagnoses and treatment

Based on symptoms cancer is suspected and physical examination is done. Some types of imaging studies and tests are done as for example:-

(i) X-ray

(ii) Ultra sonography

(iii) CT Scan

(iv) Magnetic Resonance Imagine (MRI)

(v) Blood tests and complete blood counts

(vi) Biopsy

Cancer CellsAccording to types and locations of cancer, different tests are done. As for example if a person is suffering from cough, chest pain and loosing weight then X-ray of chest might be done by a doctor.

Bone narrow biopsy might be done for leukemia.

Treatment

Surgery is done for removing malignant tumor. When surgery is unable to remove all of the cancer then the option for treatment is radiation or chemotherapy. Sometimes both radiation and chemotherapy are required for treatment of cancer.

In some cancers a combination of surgery, radiation and chemotherapy is required.

Causes and prevention

Causes of cancer: -

      (i) Certain type of viruses

(ii) Exposure to ultraviolet radiation (sunlight etc.)

      (iii) Tobacco Smoking

      (iv) Environmental Pollution

      (v) Too much consumption of alcohol

      (vi) Benzene.

Prevention

Vegetarians have lesser risk of acquiring various types of cancers like stomach cancer, bladder cancer, blood cancer etc. than meat eaters.

Controlling diet and adopting proper life style risk of having some types of cancer can be reduced.

Try to avoid red meat and processed meat. Eat vegetables, fish etc. Avoid smoking. Reduce alcohol consumption.
