Cataracts take place when the normal clear lens inside the eye, positioned behind the iris, becomes cloudy over time. This lens is the main for focusing light on the retina so that images come into view clear and without distortion, and the clouding of this lens during cataract formation distorts the vision. Cataracts are usually a very slow process of normal aging but can irregularly develop rapidly.
