Care your teeth

Dental Health is an very important part of our health. Whatever your age, you can and should have healthy teeth and a pleasant smile. Dentists feel that most of us suffer from some form of dental illness or other but don’t take it seriously. This could lead to seriousr problems and expensive treatment later in life. Pain around the teeth and jaws can be symptomatic of diseases of the heart, ears and sinuses. Inflammation and subsequent bone loss is largely painless, so don’t ignore the bleeding after brushing. Dentists also point out that wrong brushing techniques impact very adversely on oral health.

Brush twice daily to control the plaque. Brush after the meals. Eat nutritious and balanced food. Fresh vegetables and fruits, milk and fish are recommended. Rinse your mouth throughly after each meal. Rinse for a minute everyday with mouthwash. Eat fewer snacks in between meals. Spicy or oily food tends to stick to the gums. Foods rich in carbohydrates also lead to increased bacterial action on teeth and gums. Try to avoid bad oral habits like chewing tobacco or smoking. These also dramatically increase your susceptibility to oral cancer. To minimise tooth exposure to sugars and acids, use straws to sip drinks.
